The problem with ‘compostable’ lids:
‘Compostable’ lids are made from bioplastic (PLA) and while they provide a similar drinking experience than plastic, they are only commercially compostable and most councils do not accept them in the green bin. They also look very similar to plastic, confusing customers into thinking they can be recycled and ending up contaminating the recycling stream.
