Grass Cocktail Straws

Grown in the wet regions of Vietnam, our grass biodegradable straws are an excellent alternative to single-use plastic. Made from grey sedge grass called Lepironia Articulata, the plant is naturally hollow and does not require any transformation to be used as a straw. The processes of making these grass straws is entirely manual and gives employment to the local people living in the rural area.

Are biodegradable straws really biodegradable?

Yes, ours are the real deal. These grass straws are 100% natural plant stems, with no coatings or hidden plastics. They break down naturally in compost or soil, just like any other garden clippings. No greenwashing here.

How long does it take for biodegradable straws to decompose?

In a home compost bin, they usually break down within a few weeks based on the activity level of your compost, temperature and moisture. In the garden, they act like mulch and will slowly return to the earth, just like grass clippings.

Can I eat a biodegradable straw?

We wouldn’t recommend making a meal out of it but they’re not harmful (just not designed to be food!). Think of it like chewing on a wheat stem or bamboo skewer: harmless in small contact, but not tasty or nutritious.
