> More information on compostable certifications

What are your kraft salad bowls made from?
They’re made of kraft paperboard (sustainably sourced) combined with a water-based coating (not traditional plastic) to resist moisture and grease.
Are they truly compostable at home?
Yes they are certified to Australian standards AS5810 for home composting. Most kraft bowls on the market are only industrially compostable (need high heat, commercial facilities) and cannot be home composted.
How long does it take for them to decompose?
In a home compost, officially 90% of materials should disintegrate into less than 2mm pieces in compost within 6 month. Our tests show that, depending on your compost activity, it can take up to 10 weeks for the salad bowls to fully compost. In an industrial compost facility, compostable kraft bowls often degrade in about 4-6 weeks, depending on the composting method used.
Can they handle hot or greasy foods?
Yes, they are designed for hot and cold, greasy food. They can also handle soup to a degree, though extremely hot liquids (or long holding times) may affect durability hence why we do not mention soups in the product's description.
Can they go in the microwave or freezer?
Yes, they can be used in the microwave or to freeze meals and soups.
Are they leak-proof?
They’re reasonably resistant if liquid isn’t held for long. However, prolonged contact (multiple hours) with wet, oily, or acidic sauces may challenge the integrity of the coating.
