Why are your cups suitable for both hot and iced drinks?
We’ve designed our cups thicker so they can handle any drinks and be a great alternative to plastic and clear PLA cups. As only 8% of Australians have access to commercial composting, PLA cups are creating a new type of waste and are a contaminant to the recycling stream as people confuse them with traditional plastic. Having one cup for all drinks also reduces packaging costs, saves storage space, and cuts waste.
What is the difference between your cups and other compostable cups?
Feature | Our Home Compostable Cups | Other 'Compostable' Cups |
Certification | ✅ AS 5810 Home Compostable – breaks down in backyard compost | ⚠️ Usually AS 4736 Commercially Compostable – needs industrial facility |
Lining | 🌱 No lining. Use a certified home compostable aqueous coating embedded directly in the paper fibres | 🚫 PLA/bioplastic lining – won’t break down at home |
Where They Break Down into compost | 🏡 Home compost, worm farms, or garden soil | 🏭 Only in commercial composting (only available in 43 councils) |
Consumer Education | ✔️ Clear instructions and educational material, no greenwashing | ❌ Often vague: “eco” or “biodegradable” without guidance |
Environmental Impact | 🔄 Supports closed-loop system: cup → compost → soil → food | ❌ Often ends up as waste due to lack of labelling, education and infrastructure |
